Newcastle continue to progress on main target Kieran Trippier. Although the Magpies may end up paying £ 25million plus additions according to transfer genius Fabrizio Romano. The two clubs have yet to come to an agreement on a fee which appears to be the only heist.
90 minutes from Graeme Bailey reports that Trippier will become Newcastle’s highest paid player if the deal goes through. He adds that a relegation clause is not part of Newcastle’s offer. However, he will not take a pay cut if Newcastle fail to weather the drop.
The situation around Sven Botman is less optimistic. Luke Edwards announced Monday morning that Lille refused to sell the Dutch defender. Other outlets have claimed that an offer of £ 30million was rejected by the reigning Ligue 1 champions.
Sky Sports reporter Dharmesh Sheth believes it will take an astronomical attempt to twist Lille’s arm in order to loosen his stance. He reported the following on Monday:
“I think Botman is Newcastle’s number one pick, but if you look at the situation at Lille they don’t want to sell in that window.
“They are still in the Champions League and they are fighting to finish in a Champions League place in Ligue 1.
“In addition, Botman has a contract in Lille until the summer of 2025.
“A contact actually told me today that if Lille even considered selling Botman in that window they would be looking for a price over £ 60million.”
Importantly, the £ 60million quote comes from just one source. Newcastle might be able to come to an agreement somewhere in the middle of the two reported fees. By all accounts, the 21-year-old remains a prime target who wants the move to happen.
If Lille remains insensitive to Newcastle’s cash, it is a claim that Freiburg center-back Nico Schlotterbeck could become a target. This is the first time that the young German’s name has been referenced with Newcastle.
Schlotterbeck is a very promising 22-year-old defenseman who, like Botman, is left-handed, good with the ball in his feet and dominant in the air. He is one of the reasons why former club Papiss Cissé are currently third in the Bundesliga.
