Last year, Portnoy – who started a nonprofit to help small businesses during the COVID-19 pandemic – denied any wrongdoing, but admitted he was ‘afraid’ to cancel the culture after Insider.com published a lengthy article accusing the media mogul of having rough sex with women who later regretted it.
Portnoy also strongly criticized the play with an hour-long video explaining his side of the story. Insider published another negative article about Portnoy in February, and the Barstool mogul also denied all accusations in the follow-up article.
Portnoy has since filed a lawsuit against Insider.com over “false and defamatory” stories that he called “hit” pieces. But outright denials and the Barstool founder’s lawsuit haven’t stopped a liberal Canadian blog from urging Toronto business owners to reject Portnoy.
Portnoy, who travels the world reviewing pizza as one of his many recurring pieces of content, was in Toronto when blogTO published an article titled “Toronto Restaurants Offering Controversial Pizza Barstool Sports pres. Dave Portnoy.” He called the allegations “revolting” and aligned with Insider’s story – which hides behind a paywall – but did not explain the allegations.
“He announced he would be visiting Toronto in a video posted on his social media, much to the delight of many restaurants and foodies,” blogTO staff wrote. “It’s possible that some restaurants in Toronto just aren’t aware of the controversy swirling around him and are offering him food in hopes of securing promotion on his super popular social media channels.”

The blog, which recently published the article “Bra for non-binary teen en route from Toronto dad who made swimwear for trans girls”, even reached out to Toronto pizzerias to make sure employees were aware of the allegations against Portnoy.

Other Canadian establishments told blogTO they are thrilled Portnoy is in town because a positive review from pizza guru Barstool would greatly help their business, as thousands of fans flock to try his favorite slices.
The blogTO post initially featured Amy Carlberg’s byline, but the liberal publication changed her name to simply “staff” once the backlash started pouring in.
Portnoy tweeted the article and threatened to buy the blog.
“These fucking guys are too much. I should Elon Musks,” he wrote. “Imagine calling local places to let them know I might eat their pizza.”
“Apparently a blog I had never heard of until tonight (blogTo) removed the author’s name from posts and doesn’t think it’s funny anymore,” Portnoy said. tweeted.

“Apparently you are blogTO liars,” Portnoy tweeted alongside an image of the ambassador’s note.
Portnoy also posted a satirical video of a blogTO staff member yelling as Portnoy eats a slice of pizza, sending up the famous “Here’s Johnny” scene from “The Shining.” He invited “one of you losers” from blogTO to discuss the situation on his podcast.
