Blog: Another cold front with storms later in the day.

We are coming off another weekend of good weather. We had lots of sunshine both days. The temps were mostly in the 80s. It was very summery outside. Me and my family went to the beach on Friday. It was nice! The water was cool, but not too cold. It was pretty dry and felt good with the breeze.

As we begin this work week, we will have quiet weather for a bit longer. However, we will have storms arriving later today.

The anticyclone is sliding seaward. We have a strong cold front in the west.

Regional weather map

We are going to heat up today compared to the weekend. High temperatures will reach the upper 80s near 90 degrees.

Forecast Weather Today

We will have a south/southwest wind. This will increase the heat and humidity, but it will also release smoke from the Hyde County Fire in North Carolina. This consumed up to 2,000 acres. Winds will be south/southwest at 10-15 mph.

We will have a few scattered showers and thunderstorms through the afternoon as the thunderstorm line develops towards our west.

Future Trak (this afternoon)

The line of showers and storms will move through Hampton Roads during the evening drive. Heavy rain will be possible. This could really slow down traffic for a while.

Future Trak (tonight)

It may speed up or slow down a bit. Unfortunately, it could weaken as it falls south into North Carolina later in the evening. The problem is that they need a lot more rain than the people of Hampton Roads. Take a look at the updated UD Drought Monitor:

Drought Monitor

The showers will become patchy overnight and will continue early tomorrow morning. Then we will be dry and cooler for the rest of the day. We could see about a half inch to three quarter inch of rain. A few places could see more than an inch. I think a lot of models are overkill, but it’s good that 3 out of 4 are longer than a thumb.

48 hour rainfall forecast

Most of Tuesday should be pleasant. High temperatures will be in the upper 70s with a northeast breeze.

Expected weather tomorrow

We will also have good weather on Wednesday. We will be partly cloudy with a slight chance of showers. High temperatures will be in the lower 80s. Then we’ll heat up to nearly 90 by the end of the week.

My gut tells me that very soon we are going to start having longer periods of this heat. Maybe extreme heat in July. Eventually, the source of these bursts of cool air (around Hudson’s Bay) will start to warm up. This could allow much of the country to experience extreme heat. We will see.
