Celebrity Cruises Celebrates First Homeporting of Celebrity Summit in Boston

Celebrity Cruises celebrated last weekend with the conclusion of its Celebrity Summit ship’s first full season homeport in the US city of Boston, Massachusetts. The remarkable celebration was hosted by Celebrity Cruises President and CEO Lisa Lutoff-Perlo.

The Celebrity Summit ship has been homeported to Flynn Cruiseport Boston, Massachusetts. This cruise port previously hailed the return of the cruise industry in 2022 following the COVID-19 pandemic. Between April and November, 126 ships pass through this port, from 19 different cruise lines. The Flynn Cruiseport plays an important role in Boston’s tourism industry, providing more than 2,200 jobs and having an annual economic impact of approximately $135.5 million for the Massachusetts area.

“We are nearing the end of an amazing cruise season here in Boston, where we have not only welcomed thousands of passengers to Flynn Cruiseport Boston, but also welcomed Celebrity Summit as the homeport ship for the first time. I would like to thank Lisa Lutoff-Perlo and Celebrity for their support over the years, and we look forward to working with them to provide our passengers with excellent service next season,” said Lisa Wieland, Managing Director of Massport.

“Our season one home base in Boston was an absolutely thrilling success and one of Celebrity’s most sought-after itineraries,” said Lutoff-Perlo, CEO and President of Celebrity Cruises, who is herself a native. from Boston.

This season of homeporting in Boston for the Celebrity Summit lasted part of the summer. During the season, the Celebrity Summit carried guests on 10, 11 and 12 night cruises along the northeast coast. These crossings have called at destinations such as Maine and Canada. “Growing up in New England, this area is close to my heart and having our guests experience the stunning scenery aboard the exquisite Celebrity Summit brought me great joy,” says Lutoff-Perlo.

The Celebrity Summit is currently set to return to Boston next year, 2023, from August to October. Those trips next year are expected to take guests to other New England destinations such as Martha’s Vineyard. During its next season in New England in 2023, Celebrity will visit a brand new port, Rockland, before docking in Quebec Canada.

In 2019, Celebrity Summit underwent a $500 million “revolution,” where it received new reimaginings and reworks. The ship now offers new luxuries, freshly appointed restaurants and staterooms, and a redesigned spa and lounges. The renovation included the addition of The Retreat, a Celebrity exclusive. This exclusive space allows guests to enjoy a private terrace, live entertainment, fine dining and more.

Now that this season is over for Celebrity Cruises, the brand is preparing to pivot its ship, the Celebrity Summit, to warmer waters. The Celebrity Summit is set to begin its next Caribbean cruise season.
