DA Fleming will not seek re-election

Humboldt County Attorney Maggie Fleming announced in a press release this afternoon that she would not be running for a third term.

“It has been a privilege to serve the people of Humboldt County; I think the voters had this opportunity,” she said in the statement. “I believe that during my tenure as District Attorney, the Humboldt County District Attorney’s Office made many important strides in its efforts to achieve justice and improve public safety. The current members of the board are a dedicated and collaborative group that provide excellent service to the county – it has been an honor to work with them.

Fleming was first elected to office in 2014 and succeeded Paul Gallegos, who served three terms, becoming the first woman to hold the office in the history of Humboldt County.
