Houston Texans coaching news: Josh McCown interviewed

Last year, the Houston Texans interviewed a wide range of candidates before landing David Culley as their pick. During this process, surprisingly, they interviewed former NFL quarterback Josh McCown for this head coaching position. McCown wasn’t on anyone’s radar. He had never coached at any level before. The plan was for him to cut his teeth training his sons in high school. That lack of experience didn’t deter the Texans from bringing him into the building last year, and it didn’t stop them from talking to him again.

This year is like last year. The Texans interviewed Josh McCown to be the head coach of their football team again.

This interview triggered a shock wave of rumors. Jack Easterby loves McCown and would love nothing more for him to be the Texans head coach. Getting McCown interviewed for a second straight year, lack of coaching experience be damned, further proves Easterby’s influence at NRG Park.

Pro Football Talk speculates that the Texans are hoping for another team to interview McCown for their vacancy to lend legitimacy to Houston’s hiring process and dampen the sound of the outburst of laughter that would come if Houston hired McCown.

The Texans supposedly want to do something new and interesting. They want to think outside the box. They want to find a head coach from an often overlooked circle: recently retired players.

Is it something with wings? Is this another wave in a news cycle that we’ll all forget? Could McCown be the next Houston Texans head coach? Nothing is on the table with this organization. As crazy as it sounds, Josh McCown being named the next head coach isn’t outside the realm of possibility.
