In a series of military strikes on the besieged Gaza Strip, the Israeli occupation army killed and injured scores of Palestinians, including a senior Islamic Jihad leader and a 5-year-old girl.

Al-Jazeera, the official Palestinian news agency WAFA and other sources said that so far up to eight Palestinians have been killed in the Israeli attacks. Besides al-Jabari, the attacks also killed a 5-year-old Palestinian girl.

The Palestinian Islamic Jihad movement announced that the head of the Al-Quds Brigades’ Northern Gaza Command, Tayseer al-Jabari, was assassinated by Israel in an airstrike on Friday.

Earlier, the Israeli occupation army announced the start of a military operation against the Islamic Jihad movement in the Gaza Strip. He named it “True Dawn”.

Israel has deployed attack drones and increased its surveillance over the beleaguered Gaza Strip, fearing reprisals after the arrest of a Palestinian leader earlier this week, Haaretz reported Thursday.

In an escalation of its 15-year siege, Israel closed all crossings into Gaza on Tuesday after arresting Bassam al-Saadi, a senior Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ) operative.
The closure halted the transport of goods and aid to Gaza and prevented workers from crossing into Israel.
