The 2022 NHL Draft Live Blog

For the third year in a row, we’re looking at a later-than-normal NHL Draft, but we’ve finally come to fishing day and I’m here to update you while you’re at work. Are you excited? I’m excited. Since there’s bound to be a lot of speculation surrounding these games and the NHL in general, I’ll be collating all Oilers-related news that may or may not happen in one easy-to-find place. Are you ready? Of course you are.

Even though we know a lot of the draft chatter will mean nothing, the Oilers are tied to so many names and rumors that I wonder if this is the changing year. As of the launch of this live blog, the Oilers only have four draft picks available via the seven-round draft and that makes me wonder if Holland will try to make a few moves that give his scouts more opportunities. . Either way, I’ll be using the live blog to pull together all the Oilers news and rumors you could hope for, and put them into one tidy post that’ll be easy for all of you to follow. Whether we get no trades or a bunch of trades that drive us crazy, I look forward to a few wild days around the NHL and hope the Oilers find a way to land an upgrade or two that we can look forward to next season.

  • Jesse Puljujarvi (65GP: 14G, 22A), FRG – I hate that. I hate that we’re here, but it looks like the bison king is about to leave town, and now we have to sit and wait to see what the comeback is before we decide whether to go crazy online or not. Anyway, I’ll be the first to admit that this one is going to hurt me because Puljujarvi is a player I believe in, and even though there are times when I wish for more finishing to go along with the Stellar possession numbers. , it is far from thinking that this team will be better off without him. We’ll see what happens.
  • Tyson Barrie (73GP: 7G, 34A, $4.5m until 2024 –During Daily Faceoff, Frank Seravalli listed Tyson Barrie on his Trades Target list as a potential option for the Oilers as they look to free up cap space. According to Seravalli, it’s not that the team is unhappy with Barrie, but rather that he could be an interesting player for a team looking to add offense at fullback. At this point, we’ve heard Detroit and Seattle as two teams that might be interested in Barrie’s services, but whether or not that happens is a whole other story.
  • Zack Kassian (58GP: 6G, 13A), $3.2 million until 2024 – When Zack Kassian is on his game, he can be a very effective player for the Oilers. The problem is, we don’t see this version of the guy enough, and that’s not enough when you have a $3.2 million prize tag attached to your name. The big question, though, is whether anyone will want to accept Kass’ deal and what the Oilers would need to add to make the trade happen. At what point are the Oilers eyeing the sweetener that other teams are questioning to assume the full value of his contract before they just decide to bring him back and hope he can bounce back. This one, to me, is going to be incredibly interesting to watch.
  • Warren Foegele (82GP: 12G, 14A), $2.75m through 2024 – Given that we’re talking about freeing up space, Warren Foegele is another guy who might show up on Holland’s radar as a trade chip, although I really doubt he’ll be moved by October. That’s not to say it’s an impossible deal or anything, but I’d be absolutely surprised to see Holland walk away from the guy soon after acquiring him.
  • The 29th pick overall – Would you? I want to do it, but I don’t think the Oilers will. Edmonton only has that first round at 29th and then nothing until pick 158 in the fifth round, so if I had to guess, I’d bet Holland would use it.

Since I’m the one who doesn’t have an adult job, I’ll be spending the day browsing the internet with the National Headquarters team for Oilers news and rumors, that’s where I’ll share everything. what I will find. For those of you who don’t joke around on social media, this will be the place to watch for insiders, drummers, or anyone else who might get a glimpse of what Ken Holland might be up to.

  • 9:00 a.m. MT – We are off and running! While I don’t necessarily expect the Oilers to do anything crazy today, I’ll be watching the news and rumors anyway. My body is ready. The coffee is ready. Live blog assembled! BTW, if anything happens around the Pacific Division, I’ll put that stuff here too so we have another place to discuss it.
  • 9:19 MT – Kevin Weekes reports that Marc-Andre Fleury will re-sign in Minnesota and that makes me wonder if the Oilers would want to bring Cam Talbot back for another round of duty? At $3.6 million, he’d probably be cheaper than some of the guards the Oilers are tied to, right? I was just thinking out loud.
  • 9:25 a.m. MT – Now Frank Seravalli says there is no deal for Marc-Andre Fleury in Minnesota. Ignore my latest ramblings.

This week on BLTN, I had Jason Gregor on my podcast to give an update on what’s going on with the Oilers in the hours leading up to the draft. I also asked him about Jesse Puljujarvi’s situation and what his bold prediction would be for the Oilers in the NHL Draft this week.
