The Newcastle United Blog | Local Lad makes dream debut with spot on Alan Shearer’s Team of the Week

It was a lifelong dream come true for 29-year-old Dan Burn on Sunday. The Blyth-born defender made his Newcastle United debut in a tense 1-0 win over Aston Villa.

Burn had his chance because captain Jamaal Lascelles was sick. The 6’7″ centre-back was superb as he helped the Magpies retain just the third clean sheet of this campaign.

After the match, Burn spoke to NUFC TV about the dream start to his Newcastle United career. It was a moment he must have thought he would never come.

Burn won the Newcastle United poll as man of the match. He also won our poll with 56% of the vote.

What Dan will really like is that he is the only Magpie to make Alan Shearer’s Team of the Week. This is only the fourth week that a Newcastle player has been part of Alan’s squad.

Howe has a decision to make for Saturday’s game at West Ham. He now has three fit centre-backs in Fabian Schar, Jamaal Lascelles and Dan Burn. With Kieran Trippier sidelined for the foreseeable future, could we see a back three against The Hammers?

Newcastle have made a few debuts recently. It’s been a long wait for summer signing Santiago Munoz who got his first appearance for the U23s tonight. The 19-year-old came on as a second-half substitute in a 2-0 loss to Huddersfield in the Premier League Cup.
