The Newcastle United Blog | Newcastle face tough climb to reach new loan target

Newcastle have asked to be kept updated on developments in the fates of Conor Gallagher, Armando Broja, Callum Hudson-Odoi and Christian Pulisic. It seems the lines of communication to Stamford Bridge have been steady all summer.

The Magpies registered a loan offer for Timo Werner earlier in the window. The German eventually returned to RB Leipzig for half the fee paid by Chelsea just a few years ago. He also suffered a significant reduction in his salary.

Pulisic’s addition to the shortlist made headlines this week. The American could be the third striker Thomas Tuchel to offload behind Werner and Romelu Lukaku, who is on loan at Inter Milan.

The mail reports that Newcastle face an uphill battle to land Pulisic, who joined Chelsea in 2019 for £57million. The 23-year-old is attracting interest from Atletico Madrid, Juventus and AC Milan; all of which can deliver Champions League football.

Chelsea are reportedly ready to listen to loan offers with Pulisic open to a loan. Although injuries played a part, Pulisic struggled to get a consistent run in Tuchel’s starting XI.

He’s only made two cameos so far this season. With Chelsea pushing to land Everton’s Anthony Gordon and Barcelona’s Pierre Emerick Aubameyang this week, his outlook could darken.

If Pulisic becomes available, Newcastle will face a battle to land him. The most likely arrival would be either Conor Gallagher or Callum Hudson-Odoi. Although Pulisic’s ability to play in the center or on the outside makes him a desirable target.
