From the town of Suffolk:
SUFFOLK, Va. (January 22, 2022) Suffolk Public Works crews continue to work to combat snow and ice on the roads in the city of Suffolk. At this point, most designated primary roads have been cleared and cleared and staff have moved to secondary roads. Public Works currently has 22 trucks in service and has used 189 tonnes of abrasive across the city. Crews will continue to work around the clock in 12-hour shifts for the foreseeable future.
Staff would like to remind residents of the possible refreeze on the roads this evening through Sunday morning due to freezing temperatures expected overnight. The National Weather Service in Wakefield announces a low of 10 degrees this evening in the town of Suffolk. Motorists are urged to stay off the roads and avoid non-essential travel. Bridges and overpasses can be particularly troublesome as they are likely to freeze before roads.
If you must move, stay back and avoid passing the plows as snow or abrasives may come from the plow while it is operating. Also, drivers should not position themselves directly in front of a snow plow because heavy machinery cannot stop quickly.
