West Seattle Blog… | InterConnexion: Welcoming a new WSB sponsor

Today we welcome interconnection as a new WSB sponsor. This means that they can explain to you what they do:

interconnection is a Seattle-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit that strengthens digital equity by providing affordable computers and Internet services to underserved groups. Digital inclusion is essential in today’s society, where access to information, education, healthcare and job opportunities is increasingly difficult without computers and the Internet. Since 1999, interconnection provided affordable computers to more than 300,000 people and stopped more than 6 million pounds of e-waste from entering landfills through the environmentally responsible refurbishment, reuse and recycling of computers.

Computers are often retired before the end of their useful life. By partnering with interconnectioncompanies ensure that their computers are refurbished for reuse or recycling instead of reaching landfills.

As the first US nonprofit organization to achieve R2 and ISO 14001 certification status, interconnection provides durable IT asset disposal solutions for small and large businesses. We follow industry best practices in ensuring that confidential data and private information existing on IT assets is never compromised. InterConnection’s standard data destruction procedures comply with NIST 800-88 guidelines for media sanitization and Department of Defense 5220.22-M.
